Meet Terry

As an RN, I served the last 30+ years in front-line management as well as senior leadership where I excelled in identifying areas for improved efficiency and teamwork, maintaining a satisfied workforce. The last 20 years were at the VA, where I successfully improved departments despite the federal bureaucracy.

I earned my associate degree in nursing from Hesston College, my bachelor’s degree from Newman University and my master’s in nursing administration from Wichita State University. As a County Commissioner, I would love to work with high school students and young adults to spark an interest at an early age, and the influence they could have on local government.

Leadership must evolve with new voices and new faces, and for the County Commission, it's no different.   Our citizens deserve a fresh approach to circumstances that have been worsening in our county.  They deserve data-driven decision-making, and they deserve to have a voice in the process.  Our taxes are too high.  We need a more robust community of workers and companies to share the expense of running the county.  We are perfectly situated between Wichita and McPherson, offering quick commutes for a variety of needs.  With a heavy tax burden for residents, and the amount of non-taxable property across the county, the county finds itself limited in its ability to spur growth, or offer residents more value for their tax dollars.

I also believe that it is important to give our citizens some insight into county decisions.  Our county will be stronger with residents voicing their concerns and opinions. This is YOUR county, and I will do my best to represent you.

I married Brian almost 50 years ago and have been proud to call Newton our home. We raised our two children here and have deep connections to this community.

Through their activities, Brian’s businesses (Newton Auto; Automotive and Industrial Paint Supply) and our involvement with community activities (worship team member; serving at the local homeless shelter, member of The Harvey County Patriots, local Sweet Adelines) we have a keen sense of pride and responsibility in making our chosen community better.   Since retirement, I have taken a special interest in the county commission, most notably the process in which decisions are made and the interaction with each other and the citizens of Harvey County.
